The Virginia Gators of Harrisonburg joined with the Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation Department on June 12th to help prepare the Dream Come True Playground for re-opening. The playground has been closed since March of 2020, so over the course of the last year (and a bit), the facilities needed some sprucing up: mulching, painting, removal of debris, and cleaning of the equipment.

From Brian Mancini, Acting Director of Harrisonburg Parks and Rec: Sixteen of our swimmers (from ages 5 and up), along with parents spent several hours getting dirty and even a little paint-splotched and the results are now being enjoyed by children from our area.

"We have to give a huge THANK YOU to the Virginia Gators of Harrisonburg Swim Team today. Over the course of the morning, more than 30 volunteers including swimmers, board members, and parents showed up and donated time to help prepare A Dream Come True Playground for its re-opening on Monday. Along with some Parks employees, they washed playground equipment, power washed sidewalks, playground equipment and benches, painted bridges and sidewalks, applied playground mulch, picked up trash and much more. The group has donated thousands of dollars worth of equipment to Westover Pool that ultimately ends up helping city residents and city athletes use, and compete at, Westover Pool. Thanks again to a youth group that volunteered time today to make the Friendly City just a little bit better than it was yesterday." [source]

Thank you all so much to those who were able to make it for your willingness to help out and make a much appreciated difference in our community.
